Upon the Earl’s death, Sophie is left with a dowry and a stipulation that her stepmother had to take care of her until her 21 st birthday, after which she would receive an additional 2 thousand pounds a year. This is the usual evil stepmother and I never really understood her reasons for hating Sophie so much, and two stepsisters, of course. That is until he marries a widow with 2 daughters just about Sophie’s age. Sophie Becket is an Earl’s bastard and was raised as his ward. To date, this is my favorite Cinderella movie retelling, so I was totally in the zone while reading this book. As of writing this review, I have already read 4 books in the Bridgerton series and so far, this is the best!Īn Offer from a Gentleman reminded me a lot of Ever After with Drew Barrymore. Well, An Offer from a Gentleman really surprised me A LOT! It is full of feels and I could not help but root for Sophie Becket and have her find her Prince Charming. We also don’t see much of him in the first 2 books in the series so I was really surprised that this book is the third in the series. I mean, if a book makes me cry, it is up there on my favorite list! Initially, I had reservations about it since we don’t really know a lot about Benedict Bridgerton other than him being the second son.

In fact, I was brought to tears! This is usually my measure for loving a book. I normally don’t like Cinderella retellings (except for Cinder by Marissa Meyer) but An Offer from a Gentleman snuck into my heart early in the book.
